NOTES:
It is the memberships wishes that the new board begin to rebuild membership by holding monthly events.
In the past, we have held the following: poor man's reverse raffle, valentine's dance, st. patrick's day party, spring fling dance, summer festival, clambake, reverse raffle, fall anniversary dance, halloween party, holiday craft show, Ireland's32, christmas party, new years eve ball and a number of children's events. I may have missed some of the events we've held and there is certainly room for creativity especially for trying to plan activities at the events whether tried and true activities or something new. Volunteers will be needed. In the past, as long as one or two of the board members chaired the event, other volunteers came forward to help with the events ... and if not, some members were approached directly and asked if they wouldn't mind tending to a specific task like handling the door for a few hours, etc. Many members are willing to volunteer for things like taking tickets or money at the door or the bar, setting up the hall, cleaning up the hall, bartending, etc., but don't want to get involved in the planning or chairing of the event. Board members typically chair and plan most of the events since they have the experience and many of the details like dates available for the event and budget for the event may only be known by the board members. Some volunteers need special skills like marketing and advertising. Plus, these events need to be planned months in advance or even a year in advance so we can publish what is scheduled for the coming year. A person knowing what events are being held for the coming year is more likely to join as a member .... and this builds membership. Events are necessary to build and maintain membership, otherwise all we have is a bar with people looking for cheap drinks. Sorry to be so blunt. We need to book more Irish musicians since this is an Irish Heritage Club. We could also use one of the halls on Fridays for something called 'First Fridays." This will broadcast to any and everyone an expectation that the club will be holding a dance every first friday of every month. Most popular at this time would be alternating 'oldies' one month and 'country-western' music the next month Irish music can be reserved for some of our monthly dances or specially scheduled events. We build a mailing list and e-mail list of people attending these dances and send them postcards and/or emails of coming bands/dj's and other club events. We continually offer membership to our guests. The events may not be that profitable (if at all) at first, until word grows with the help of guests, members and advertisements. The Cooney room can continue to be booked for birthdays and other small parties. The budget for the club will be greatly enriched allowing us to either buy back the main property in ten years or develop the back property for perhaps a site like the Berea Fair grounds and buildings.
Anyway, these are my thoughts on getting the club going strong again. At one point we had 1600 members and it was my calculated feeling that we needed to grow to 3000 members to be at our best. It seemed to me that over the course of six or more years of being involved in events at the club, about an average of 10% of members came to any one well planned and advertised event. We typically needed 105 guests at an event to break even at the door and the rest would be profit that the club could use for other bills or savings for future development.
To the Future!

PREVENT CANCER:
WHAT'S THE POINT OF WALKING OR RACING FOR THE CURE WHEN YOU'RE IGNORING THE POTENTIAL CAUSES OF CANCER IN YOUR OWN PERSONAL LIFE OR YOUR CHILDREN'S LIVES?
According to toxicology experts, a single exposure to a carcinogen may develop into cancer 8 or more years after the intial exposure. Most mainstream personal care, baby care and cosmetic products contain one or more known and/or suspected carcinogens. What goes on your skin goes into your bloodstream and cells within 30 seconds. The FDA does not test, screen or evaluate most personal care products. It's up to you.
The National Institute of Health and Safety studied 2,983 ingredients used in personal care and cosmetic products and found 884 of them to be toxic. Of the 884 toxic ingredients:
- biological mutations could be caused by 314,
- reproductive problems by 218, acute toxicity by 778,
- cancer tumors by 146,
- skin and eye irritation by 376.
These products include shampoos, conditioners, body wash, deodorant, shaving cream, mouthwash, and toothpaste. They were also found in baby products like bubble bath, shampoos (including no-tears shampoos), baby powder, and baby wipes.

ORGAN DONATION: GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE
74 organ transplants are performed each day.
18 people a day die waiting for an organ that is never donated.
Life saving organs are buried every day that could
have given others a second chance at living.
Organ donation is unnoticable on the donor.
Organs are provided to the closest tissue match in the area.
There is no favoritism is distributing organs given for donation.
Medical personnel give every effort to saving the life of an
organ donor, same as they would a non-organ donor.
In a way, organ donors live on through the lives of those they've saved.
Give the gift of life. It's as simple as filling out an organ donor card.
